21st Birthday Trip to San Francisco
In May of 2026 I went to San Francisco with Mom and Mona, which Mom paid for as a (late) birthday gift to me. We stopped at The Golden Gate Park, The California Academy of Sciences, The Aquarium of the Bay, Fisherman's Wharf, The Exploritorium, The Muir Woods, The Zoo, and spent the last day exploring on GoCars.

Traveler context
Why this stop fits the bigger route.
I have lived in the USA my whole life. I know I'll never see all of it, but I'd like to try and see all the big stuff if I can.

Best stop
01Outside of the city, I would say The Muir woods. But inside? Fisherman's Wharf. We went there 3 separate times on our trip and still found things to do. It was super crowded over the weekend, but it was nice on weekdays.
Hidden gem
02The GoCars were fantastic! They allow you to take in so much of the city, and give you a lot of really interesting info on it as well!
Best food
03We ate at a lot of good places: Fog Harbor, Pier Market, Boudin's... but the best restaurant we ate at (to me, at least) was the first one we chose- John's Grill! Great food and atmosphere. I got the Seafarer's pasta. Delicious!
Worth the detour?
04Absolutely. This is the kind of stop that earns its extra miles.
Family-friendly?
05Yes — easier to enjoy with kids in the mix.

If you're already headed this way, this is a strong candidate for turning a pass-through into an actual memory.
